Site Update – Apr. 27th
Today’s update brings the introduction of the Player Invite System. Player invites will become a common element of playing QUAKE LIVE with your friends, whether you are wanting a friend to join you on a publicly hosted server or are launching a server of your own — a feature we’re working to make available to all players as part of a QUAKE LIVE Premium Service. To send or accept a player invite, we have added a right-click context menu on the friends list which provides up to three options to perform on a friend: View Profile, Invite to Match, Join Match. We encourage everyone to use this new feature and provide us feedback so that we continue to make improvements to the invite system.
One feature of our upcoming Premium Service known as ‘Start a Match’ is currently in private testing and allows for leagues and players to start servers for other players to join. This update brings new features to the Start a Match capabilities, including the ability to start servers without passwords, the ability to restrict servers by player invite and the ability to specify a custom map rotation.
This update also includes additional fixes and features available to everyone, including
the ability to mute blocked players, a relaxed spawn system, a new administrative announcement system, match browser optimizations, an update from Punkbuster, Firefox 3.6.3+ support, and backend optimizations. A more robust changelog is available in the DevBlog.Be on the look out for a new DevBlog entry soon (tomorrow?). We look forward to being able to share more of our near-term plans for QUAKE LIVE.
